Book Club FAQs
-
LangLi launched the Read the World Book Club as a community of adult readers who are interested in traveling the world and connecting with others across cultures through reading!
Although the books and discussions will be in English, we try to select books that were originally published in the country’s native language so attendees have the option to read in that language if desired.
-
The only requirement when we select books is that they are fictional stories! The book for each country may be any fiction genre, like fantasy, romance, mystery, etc.
We try to choose books that are fast-paced, less than 300 pages, set in the theme country, by an author native to that country. The goal is to make the reader feel like they are in the country, with its people.
-
It will always be possible to attend online. We record each book club and will post the videos on that country’s page so those who couldn’t attend can go back and watch it later!
When the book club is being hosted at a specific location, we will provide that information on the country’s page!
-
LangLi’s Read the World Book Club will always be free to attend, with the recommended donation of $10 per session.
Those who donate are entered into a drawing to win a free copy of the following book club pick!
-
Part of preparing for each book club involves partnering with a bookstore to select the book.
Upon announcing each country and book pick, we will include information about the bookstore where we recommend you buy the book.
This is our way of promoting independent bookstores whenever possible!
-
YES! Whether you haven’t purchased the book yet, or even chose to DNF it (did not finish), we will have a fun time together!
We are fostering a diverse community of readers across cultures. Every reader is different and all types of readers are welcome!
